News from President Jessica Stumpf

Congratulations and Thank You for a Terrific Year

It is hard to believe that graduation at all three campuses is this week! Not only is this a momentous time for students, but the staff and faculty at Anoka Tech and Anoka-Ramsey should also celebrate their own graduation and commencement.

It has been a year full of changes and hard work for both Anoka Tech and Anoka-Ramsey. I am so pleased with the collaboration and commitment you all have put into this past year.  Your willingness to be flexible, adapt to change and to go the extra mile for the sake of students and higher education will blaze the road to future successes at all three campuses.  Everyone should be proud to graduate from the hard work and dedication they have put forth this past year and should embrace a commencement that celebrates the start of something wonderfully new, exciting and fresh!

I look forward to next year and to being a part of an alignment that breaks new ground and serve as a model for the future. I think many people are watching Anoka Tech and Anoka-Ramsey to see what we can do. We have a lot to offer; I see it every day I come to work. I am proud to say that I am part of an innovative team of people who will overcome obstacles, seize opportunities and build on each institutions unique heritage to obtain the goals of serving students and our communities, and aligning two colleges.

If you are staff or faculty who work over the summer months, I encourage you to take time away from campus and spend it with your friends and family. If you are staff or faculty who are not on campus over the next few months, I hope you enjoy the lazy days of summer.

Stay in touch this summer by looking at the Weekly Update or College Bulletin; both will continue to communicate important college information.

Thank you again for all that you do and I hope to see you at graduation.

Congratulations to John Hennen

Congratulations to John Hennen for being recognized by Anoka County for his work regarding sexual violence awareness and prevention. If you missed the press release recognizing John and the award he received from the county, you can still read it online.

John’s dedication and commitment to raising awareness around sexual violence continues to make a difference in the lives of our students and will have a profound effect in the lives about people beyond Anoka County.

Words really fail to express how thankful I am and how proud I am to work among some of the state’s finest faculty and students. Congratulations, John!

Annual Faculty/Staff vs. Students Softball Game Fun

Submitted by Joan McKearnan, Biology Department

We had a slow start to the game and therefore the shortest game in our history, 2.5 innings, but the faculty can now say “Two-two-two in a row”.  The score was 11-3.  I would say the Faculty MVP was Tom Hanson who not only pitched a great game but hit 1.75 home runs.  The 0.75 was because the ball hit the top of the fence and then bounced back in and Tom was able to run to third base.  I want to thank the players for the faculty (see below) and Shannon Glenn for organizing the student team.

Lance Lund
Vicki MacMurdo
Kathy Connelly
Tom Hanson
Trung Ha
(who also hit a home run!)
Brandi Eddings
Ashley Weatherspoon
Sara Nelson
Shawn Magner

Dan Lojovich
Bruce Homann

And… Wait for it…….

Blayn Lemke (yes, you heard it here first) who played catcher for the last inning, and not too bad.  Joe Mauer, watch out!

Faculty Earns Perfect Score M. Ed. Graduate Exams

Big congratulations to Communications Studies Faculty member Angie Anderson for earning a perfect score on her Masters of Education (M. Ed.) graduate exams.  Angie completed the online Teaching Graduate certificate in summer 2011 and is now finishing her M.Ed. through .Bemidji State University.

The last step in the completion of her degree is a final project, which has been proposed and accepted, that expands on her prior work to further examine the importance of feedback, organization, content creation and meaningful interactions among students and faculty in online courses. Faculty members who excel in most or all of these areas are encouraged to contact Angie over the summer for a short interview.

Congratulations, Angie!

New Full Time Faculty in Political Science

Matt Schuster has officially accepted a position as a full-time Political Science faculty member.  Matt holds a Master of Science degree in Political Science and has completed all coursework towards his Ph.D. in Political Science.

He began at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in 2005 as an Academic Advisor. Since then, he has been a temporary part-time faculty member at the college, and has remained very involved within the department.

Matt’s new position will be the only full-time faculty member in the Political Science Department. He will teach at both the Cambridge and Coon Rapids campuses.  He has continually dedicated his efforts by committing to students, serving the college, and reaching out to the community.  Matt’s role will continue to grow as he leads the Political Science Department.

Mr. Bibee,

I just wanted to e-mail you back and tell you how much I appreciate your help. I can open the Powerpoints online, I just didn't realize they were there. You are a wonderful teacher and are always willing to help in any way possible and responding to your students right away. I will say that I enjoyed your class and I can't say that about many speech classes I have attended before. I truly am grateful for all the help and e-mails you have replied back to. Not many teachers are like this and I hope you realize that you are a wonderful teacher!

Thanks for everything.
