College Foundation Awarded First Grant from MnSCU/MSCSA Golf Tournament

September 26, 2013

A partnership between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system and Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA) has resulted in a $2,500 grant for scholarships at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Coon Rapids Campus.

The two organizations worked together on the system foundation’s 14th annual golf tournament, and raised a record sum of more than $8,500. The majority of the funds were dispersed through a drawing for two names among the MnSCU-affiliated golfers. The funds were then given to the awarded golfers’ college foundations to support student scholarships at their campuses.

“I am thrilled that our campus foundation was the first recipient of this great scholarship for students,” said Valerie Knight, administrative assistant to the vice president at Anoka-Ramsey, and one of the golfers awarded through the drawing.

“This money will have a big impact on our students and their ability to afford a great education and improve their lives,” said Interim Executive Director of Foundations at Anoka-Ramsey, Michael Wall. “As many as five full-time scholarships can be awarded with $2,500, resulting in fewer work hours and more hours on schoolwork.”

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation raises funds throughout the year to fund scholarships and other student needs. The next fundraising event is the 20th annual Prairie Home Delights, Oct. 25.

“We are hoping many people will join us for a night of gourmet food, live music, and bargain auctions to support the future of our community through affordable education,”  added Wall.
