College Hosts Jazz Concert with Faculty, Area Musicians/Teachers Jan. 23

January 11, 2012

Anoka-Ramsey Community College Music Department is hosting a special music event, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m. in the Coon Rapids Campus Performing Arts Center.

Area high school band directors and Anoka-Ramsey Music faculty are performing together in a traditional jazz ensemble.

“We are excited to bring all of these music educators to our campus to continue to build relationships with local high schools and showcase the incredible talent in our community,” says event organizer and college Music Faculty member, Sam Bergstrom.

Along with fostering connections with the community and high schools including Anoka, Maple Grove, Spring Lake Park, St. Michael-Albertville, Annandale, Fridley, Rockford and Park Center, faculty is hoping to build support for music education through this and other events and to encourage donations to music scholarships that support Anoka-Ramsey Music students.

“Our hope is that this jazz ensemble may become an annual tradition at the college. The group will also hopefully perform at local high school functions and concerts as a guest ensemble in the future.

Anoka High School has already requested the ensemble play at their annual swing dance event, Friday, March 23.”
