College Students Honored as Outstanding

Anoka-Ramsey Community College Coon Rapids Campus recently honored its outstanding students for the 2007-2008 school year with an awards ceremony, May 8. Area students earning recognition in an academic area or an activity included:
Jennifer Albers received the outstanding Biomedical Technology Student Award.
Heather Aleckson

received the outstanding Chinese Student award.

Benjamin Braaten of St. Francis, Minn. and long-time resident of Blaine, Minn. received the Outstanding Economics Student Award. Braaten is a sophomore and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota.
Benjamin Bradley of Coon Rapids, Minn. received the outstanding Philosophy Student Award. He is a sophomore and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota. Bradley is the son of Mike and Debi Bradley of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Whitney Butz of Zimmerman, Minn. received the outstanding Psychology Student Award. Butz is graduating with an associate of arts degree and places to transfer to the University of North Dakota to major in English. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has appeared on the Dean's List. Butz is the daughter of Tom and Julia Butz of Zimmerman, Minn.
Kevin Capp of Andover, Minn. is a high school/PSEO student and received the Outstanding Mathematics, AMATYC-second place Student Award. Capp is the son of Richard and Pamela Kapp of Andover, Minn.
Matthew Casale of Ramsey, Minn. received the outstanding Speech Student Award. He is graduating with an associate of applied science degree, majoring in business, and plans to transfer to the University of St. Thomas. Casale is the son of Matthew and Karen Casale of Ramsey, Minn.
Crystal Cohen received the outstanding Contributor to Literary Magazine Award.
Sonja Ellingson of Maple Grove, Minn. received the outstanding Athlete Student Award. She is graduating with associate of science and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota to study pharmacy. Ellingson is the daughter of Steve and Brenda Ellingson of Maple Grove, Minn.
Joan Fritz of East Bethel, Minn. received the outstanding Nursing Student Award. Fritz is graduating with an associate of science degree and has accepted a registered nurse position at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Fritz is the spouse of Brain Fritz, a long-time resident of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Elizabeth Gigler received the outstanding Health, Physical Education, Recreation Student Award.
Matthew Gilbertson received the Outstanding Student Leadership Award.
Nicholas Greene received the Outstanding Mathematics, AMATYC-third place Student Award.
Jody Hammre received the Outstanding Biology Student Award.
Kristine Hayes received the Outstanding English Student Award.
Crystal Holzer received the MSCSA Student Leader of the Year, All USA Academic Team Nomination, Contributor to the Student Newspaper, Student Leadership and Outstanding Student of the Year Awards.
Michael Howe received the Outstanding Natural Science Student Award.
Nancy Johnson of New Hope, Minn. received the Outstanding Art Student and Student Leadership Awards. Johnson is graduating with an associate of fine arts degree in studio arts. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and appeared on the Dean's List in 2005 and 2006.
Lisa Juth of Coon Rapids, Minn. received the Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Student Award. She is graduating with an associate of applied science degree and traveled to Guatemala in 2007 to provide physical therapy services. She holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. Juth is the daughter of Rick and Barb Juth of Coon Rapids, Minn.
David Kent of Anoka, Minn. received the Outstanding Instrumentalist Student Award. He is graduating with an associate of fine arts in music degree and plans to transfer to St. Cloud State University. Kent is the son of Steve and Diane Kent of Anoka, Minn.
Brandon Loar of Maple Grove, Minn. received the Outstanding Music Student Award. Loar is graduating with an associate of fine arts in music and plans to transfer to the University of St. Thomas. Loar is the first recipient of Anoka-Ramsey Community College's Ellis Bergstrom Music Scholarship.
Kristin Lucarelli of Coon Rapids, Minn. received the Outstanding Humanities Student Award. She is graduating with an associate of arts degree. Lucarelli is the daughter of Merry and Kerry Lucarelli of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Bradley Mans of Coon Rapids, Minn. received the Outstanding Chemistry Student Award. He plans to graduate with an associate of arts, majoring in chemistry, and transfer to the University of St. Thomas. He is the son of Deanna Mans of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Allen Mavis received an Outstanding Student Leadership Award.
Christopher McCarthy received the Outstanding Theatre Arts Student Award.
Selena Peacock of Elk River, Minn. received the Outstanding Sociology Student Award. Peacock holds an associate of arts degree and is graduating with an associate if fine arts degree. Cheryl and Mike Peacock of Elk River, Minn.
Grace Rassmussen received the Outstanding Business Student Award.
Holli Richgels of Elk River, Minn. received the Outstanding Student Actor Award. She is graduating with an associate of fine arts degree in theatre arts and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota. Richgels is the daughter of Ruth and Keith Kranz of Elk River, Minn.
Donielle Rouleau received the Outstanding History Student Award.
Francis Schneider of Ham Lake Minn. received the Outstanding Physics Student Award. He is a freshman studying mechanical engineering and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota-Duluth after completing an associate of arts degree. Schneider is the son of Gary and Sharon Schneider of Ham Lake, Minn.
Robert Schuster

received the Outstanding Mathematics Student Award.

Melissa Simon of Falcon Heights, Minn. received the Outstanding Journalism Student Award. She is a sophomore and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities after completing an associate of arts degree. Simon is the spouse of Jonathan Simon and the daughter of Stan and Glenda Spar of Braham, Minn.
John Smida received the Outstanding Engineering Student Award.
Priscilla Stilwell of Coon Rapids, Minn. received the Outstanding Vocalist Student Award. Stilwell is graduating with an associate of fine arts in music (vocal performance) and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She currently teaches voice at Shell Lake Art Center in Shell Lake, Wis.
Gerald Storey Jr. received the Outstanding Geographic Information Systems Student Award.
Sarah Swenson of Ham Lake, Minn. received the Outstanding Phi Theta Kappa Student Award. Swenson holds an associate of arts degree and plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota to study pre-architecture. She served as honor's study chair and vice-president of scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa. Swenson is the daughter of Louise Swenson of Blaine, Minn.
Deborah Timasi of Champlin, Minn. received the Outstanding Reading Student Award. Timasi is a freshman.
Katherine Uhl received the Outstanding Student Leadership Awards Student Award.
Rafael Vilchis-Lopez received the Outstanding Computer Networking and Telecommunications Student Award.
