New Athletic Director Excited about New Programs, Opportunities

October 30, 2009

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Athletic Department recently welcomed David Alto as Athletic Director, responsible for overseeing all seven of the athletic programs currently offered: men's baseball , men's and women’s basketball , men's and women’s soccer , women's volleyball and, the first sport to be offered at the Cambridge Campus, women's fastpitch softball .

“It is great to enter an organization like Anoka-Ramsey,” says Alto, who will also coach the women’s softball team. “This administration has stepped forward to offer athletic opportunities to students, and the students are stepping forward to take advantage of these opportunities.”

In his new role, Alto will provide leadership, direction and coordination for Anoka-Ramsey’s intercollegiate sports program and ensure compliance with NJCAA eligibility requirements and MCAC policies.

Alto comes to the position with ten years experience as a Physical Education Teacher/Coach in Buffalo, Minn. and eight years as the Athletic/Activities Director at Spring Lake Park High School. He holds a bachelor of science in Physical Education from Moorhead State University and master of arts in Education from Hamline University.

“In the last two years, Anoka-Ramsey has added three new athletic programs—women’s soccer and fastpitch softball and men’s soccer,” notes Alto. “The number of athletes in the seven programs currently offered at the college has doubled in that same time frame from about 60 to 120 student athletes.”

Alto, also the college’s head softball coach, is committed to helping to make Anoka-Ramsey’s Athletic Program the best around, and ensuring the opportunity for participation is open to all qualified students.

“I have two women in their 30s on my softball team,” says Alto. “They love the opportunity that Anoka-Ramsey has afforded them, and so do I.”
