Introduction
to eLumen
The college has adopted a web-based software
program called eLumen to help us manage the process
of collecting
and analyzing assessment data. eLumen was specifically
designed with assessment of student learning in
mind and is organized according to our programs,
goals,
and student learning outcomes.
Once an assessment is set up for a particular
area, data can be entered in a fairly simple process:
- Log onto the eLumen web
site using a special eLumen User ID and Password
(available
from Katie
Vaccari in the Office of Institutional Research).
- Choose “Preparation” from
the “Evaluation” menu and select a
class section.
- Accept the “Shared Assessment Package” that
has been set up for the planned assessment(s) for
a course. Repeat this step for each section.
- Once the student assessment data are
ready for entry, choose “Scoring” from
the “Evaluation” menu and select a
class section.
- Once the section is selected, choose
the assessment from the drop-down menu (if only
one assessment is planned, it will be the only
option to choose).
- An evaluation scorecard will appear,
with the names of your students and the rating
levels from the associated rubric. The rubric,
itself, does not appear on this screen, but can
be viewed by selecting the “Rubric” link
next to any rating item.
- Once the data are entered, select “Save” to
record the data in the eLumen database.
- Repeat these steps for additional
sections of the same course or for assessments
that occur
later in the semester.
