Summer Scholars Academy

The Summer Scholars Academy is a three-week fully funded program that provides an academic experience at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. This unique program was designed to help first-time entering college students prepare for college-level coursework and advance in their academic skills. Participation in the Summer Scholars Academy eases the transition into college for newly entering students, recent high school graduates and returning students. This three-week program offers accelerated courses in math, reading and English. The goal is to eliminate the need to enroll in developmental courses as a first-year college student. Each year we invite a small group of recently admitted students to take advance of this opportunity. Students who participate may advance from being on the verge of developmental course work to enrolling into college-level classes for the fall semester.

This Academy prepares students for college life by welcoming them to our campus and familiarizing them with our campus resources, meeting professors, and making new friends.

We look forward to meeting you this summer and helping you achieve your goals.

  • The program's courses build knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and/or math. Students will also gain success strategies such as time management, study skills, technology skills, and financial literacy. With individualized support from Anoka-Ramsey faculty and staff, this program will not only help attendees become stronger students, but can help students focus on the road ahead, potentially saving time and money.

  • The Summer Scholars Academy is ideal for students to get to know peers who can provide support during the program and beyond. The program enrolls a small cohort of students, providing ample opportunity to get to know other college students to work, learn, think and have fun together.

  • In addition to preparing students for the future of starting college in the fall, the Summer Scholars Academy is a chance to think and dream even bigger. Anoka-Ramsey can assist students in considering academic goals and career goals, and help map out the best path to achieving those goals.

  • Anoka-Ramsey is bursting with resources that can help students succeed in college and beyond. Through Summer Scholars Academy, students have an opportunity to learn about opportunities and services for students such as tutoring, counseling, the Writing Center, workshops, campus events and more.

    • Students who successfully complete the Summer Scholars Academy and enroll full-time in the fall semester will receive a $150 scholarship.
    • Participating students will also receive transportation assistance in the form of a bus pass or a gas card
    • Students can save time and money by participating in an accelerated course in the summer and upon successful completion, enroll in college-level courses in math, reading or writing
