1. Purpose

Each approved occupational program at the college shall have an advisory committee that is appointed by the college President. For programs that have closely related subject areas, e.g., one-year and two-year secretarial programs, one committee may serve more than one program.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s occupational program advisory committees include:
Biomedical, Business, Computer Networking and Telecommunications/Computer Science, Health, Integrative Health and Healing, Nursing, and Physical Therapist Assistant

Among the expectations for each committee are the following:

  • To review the technical course work of the program in terms of the latest practices in the field and recommend changes to the Chief Academic Officer when necessary.
  • To recommend equipment and material purchases and assist the college in acquiring donations of equipment for program purposes.
  • To assist in the recruitment of students, placement of graduates, involvement of alumni, and to promote the program in the community.

2. Membership

Each program advisory committee shall comprise not less than six nor more than twelve members. The program coordinator shall serve as the executive secretary of the committee.

The Dean of Research and Evaluation maintains a spreadsheet of all advisory committee members to assist in tracking committee membership. Program advisors should notify the Dean of Research and Evaluation of any changes to committee membership. The tracking sheet can be found at: N:\Faculty\Career Programs

3. Terms of Appointment

Terms of appointment will be for three years, with appointments made in such a manner that at least two of the members of each committee will be appointed annually. Terms shall be limited to two consecutive three-year terms.

4. Officers

Each committee shall elect from its membership a chairperson and vice chairperson. Terms of office shall be for the fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30.

The chairperson shall have the responsibility of preparing the agenda in consultation with the executive secretary and convening and presiding over each meeting.

The vice chairperson shall assume the functions of the chairperson at the chairperson's direction or in the event of the chairperson's absence or inability to perform the required duties.

The identified program coordinator shall serve as the executive secretary of the committee and shall prepare, distribute and archive minutes.

5. Meetings

Each committee may meet as frequently as it deems necessary, but no fewer than two times each calendar year.

The Dean of Research and Evaluation maintains a master meeting schedule all Program advisory meetings. Program advisors should notify the Dean of Research and Evaluation of any changes to committee membership. The meeting tracking sheet can be found at N:\Faculty\Career Programs
