Golf Event Scores Big for Student Scholarships

August 06, 2010

The 19th annual golf scholarship fundraiser, sponsored by the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation and Mall of America, July 27 at Majestic Oaks Golf Course, enjoyed great success in spite of the challenging economy and humid weather.

The event grossed more than $18,000. Although only 86 golfers played this year, the $11,820 profit margin equals or surpasses many of the past years.

Congratulations to the following best scoring foursomes and individual contest winners, who received trophies:

  • First Place Team—CDW-G: Mark Lindell, Sheila Provost, Steve Tatge, Joyce Traczyk

  •  Second Place Team—Northeast Bank: Tim Chies, Larry Crane, Mark Ethen, Scott Hudson

  • Third Place Team—Cisco:  Robert Conrad, Mike Seymour, Paul Thon, Steve Velner

  •  Longest Drive—Men: Larry Crane

  • Longest Drive—Women: Joyce Traczyk

  • Longest Putt—Men:  Rich Moore

  • Longest Putt—Women:  Pam Westlund

  • Closest to Pin—Men:  Tim Chies

  • Closest to Pin—Women:  Cheryl Lombardi

All golfers received gift bags, in addition to the free cart and a coupon for a free round of golf at Majestic Oaks.

Mall of America, whose public relations director is an Anoka-Ramsey alumnus, was the event sponsor. Carlson Toyota provided a car for the hole-in-one; unfortunately, there was no lucky winner. Inspec, Inc. was the cart sponsor. Sixteen businesses sponsored tee signs. Many businesses donated items for the gift bags, raffle and door prizes.

Net proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for Coon Rapids Campus students in 2010-2011.  In 2009-2010, a record-high exceeding $151,800 was spent in scholarships.

“With the continued enrollment growth at Anoka-Ramsey, and the necessary tuition increases, scholarships are an increasingly important resource in helping students achieve their goals,” says Institutional Advancement Director, Evelyn Gedde.
