College Business Students Get Real Life Experience Assisting Lions Club

May 19, 2009

Anoka-Ramsey Community Business Leadership Club members put their in-class learning to real world use by assisting the Coon Rapids Lions Club with their inaugural fundraising event.

The Lion’s event, set for June 7 and 8, includes a Galaxy Dinner with silent auction and a shotgun golf tournament.

The students volunteered their time and efforts in raising donations for the silent auction and will volunteer at the dinner and golf outing.

The purpose of the project was to build on the critical thinking and interpersonal skills, sales and marketing techniques and project management fundamentals that the students study in class.

The college Business Leadership Club is looking for other community organizations to partner with. For more information, contact Dr. Mago at John.Mago@anokaramsey.edu or 763-433-1203.

“The students helped facilitate this project from start to finish, and helped create a process which they can duplicate for future events,” says Anoka-Ramsey Business Faculty member and the club’s Advisor, Dr. John Mago. “Specifically, the students gained valuable working knowledge about business networking, the functioning of community and civic organizations, the rewards of commitment and giving for a worthy cause.”

The Business Leadership Club is an Anoka-Ramsey student organization committed to introducing the student to information about networking, careers, teamwork, leadership and community. Every student is welcome regardless of their career of choice.
