Anoka-Ramsey Community College associate in Fine Art (AFA) students from both the Cambridge Campus and the Coon Rapids Campus are displaying their original artwork in the third annual All for Art exhibition at the Blaine City Hall (10801 Town Square Drive N.E., Blaine) Feb. 2 through Feb. 27. The opening reception and award presentation, sponsored by the college’s Art Department held Feb. 6, announced the following recognitions.
First Place, $100 Prize
Corissa Burton, “Anna” (2-D) Kevin Landsverk, “Untitled” (3-D)
Second Place, $75 Prize
Selena Peacock, pitcher with set of six mugs (3-D) Sarah Wehr, “Summer” (2-D)
Third Place, $50 Prize
Jessica Hakala, “Pin-ups” (2-D) Thomas Nye, “Untitled” (3-D)
Honorable mentions included students: Stephanie Holm, “Face Portrait #6;” Sarah Lambie, “Saved;” Heather Oxendale, “Midnight Vigil;” and Selena Peacock, “Untitled.””
The guest juror was Patricia Briggs, Professor of Art History at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and well-regarded art critic.
The All for Art exhibit, a collaborative effort by the Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Blaine Arts Council, will remain on display through Feb. 27 at Blaine City Hall Blaine City Hall during regular business hours.
Students in the exhibit are pursuing an associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree, which was initiated four years ago at Anoka-Ramsey. The AFA program was developed to prepare burgeoning artists for professional success. In addition to a challenging curriculum of art courses, the college’s Art Department also promotes exhibitions as an important component in the life of a professional artist. Currently, there are more than 80 declared AFA students at Anoka-Ramsey and most decide to further their art educations in colleges throughout the country.
