This untitled conte crayon drawing by Kari Ann Gibbons, an Anoka-Ramsey Community College Cambridge Campus associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree student, was recognized with the first-place award display at the second annual All for Art juried exhibit last year. | "The juried show allows our AFA students to have their work evaluated by a neutral third party," says Art Faculty, Marko Marian. "Not only can they display their talents, they are being prepared for future professional competitions and exhibitions." Patricia Briggs, Professor of Art History at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, independent curator and local critic, will jury the show and select the winning pieces. Briggs was recognized by "The City Pages" 2008 Best Of series as Best Art Critic.
"The exhibit also gives faculty an opportunity to recognize our students and share the insights we have accumulated in our own professional careers," Marian says. "The overall purpose of the show is to cultivate ties between the faculty, students and the community in a forum that encourages students to ultimately share their work with a broader audience." Students in the exhibit are pursuing Anoka-Ramsey's associate in Fine Art (AFA) degree program, initiated three years ago to prepare up-and-coming artists for professional success. In addition to a challenging curriculum of art courses, the college's Art Department promotes the idea of exhibitions as being an important ingredient for creating a professional artist.
