Student Employment

Student employment is financial aid, which means the first step in getting a job on campus is to be notified in your award letter that you are eligible. The amount listed on your award letter is the maximum amount you may earn for the academic year. Student employment funds are limited, so they are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Being awarded student employment is not necessarily a guarantee of a job.

If you have been awarded student employment and are interested in securing a job on campus, check out our Job Listings . Once you’ve identified a job you are interested in, contact the supervisor to set up an interview. Make sure you bring all the materials you received with your award letter to your interview. After you have secured a student employment position, you and the supervisor will need to complete the Student Employment Authorization Form. Bring your completed Student Employment Authorization Form to the Financial Aid Office along with your social security card and drivers license or other acceptable documentation as listed on the Authorization Form. This must be done BEFORE performing any work as any hours worked before receiving your time sheet from the Financial Aid Office will be considered volunteer hours.

Student employment funds are available to be earned, and are thus disbursed to you in the form of a paycheck. You will be paid for the hours you work, up to your awarded amount. Payday is the second Friday following the Wednesday that time sheets are due. Students have the option of direct deposit or checks are mailed to the student's permanent mailing address.

Job Title: Admissions and Orientation Ambassador

Duties: Support new students through the Orientation & Registration process by assisting with registration, giving tours, and creating photo ID’s. Other duties may include preparing orientation packets, creating folders, and general Microsoft Office functions (Word, Excel, etc).

Qualifications: Computer experience. Able to work independently and help new students feel welcome at ARCC. Knowledgeable about course registration process, e-Services, and campus resources. Job Title: Computer Lab Assistant

Duties: Monitoring computer labs, maintaining printers, assisting students with software applications, troubleshooting, general cleaning, Assist IT staff in answering the helpdesk line and assisting students with printing funds. The hours currently available for hire in the Cambridge Open Lab are Mondays 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The student workers in the Open lab work between 10 and 15hrs per week.

Job Title: Fitness Center Worker

Duties: Provide orientation/instruction regarding equipment usage. Monitor sign-in sheets, answer telephone inquiries, maintain cleanliness and order of fitness equipment. Provide support in emergency/medical situations.

Job Title: Food Service Assistant

Duties: Food Service Assistants will work in varying areas including customer service, cash handling, food preparation, beverage preparation, catering, dishwashing, stocking, and cleaning.

Qualifications: Applicants must have their 2013-14 FAFSA submitted and be qualified for work study. Applicants must be available to work a minimum of two shifts per week to be considered. Occasional weekend shifts may also be available . Previous customer service, cash handling, food preparation, or coffee shop experience is a plus, but not required. Job Title: Geography/Geology Resources Assistant

Duties: Assists students in the computer lab with project research questions and the use of a variety of computer programs including online resources. Organizes, keeps inventory and maintains maps and other Geography resources generally kept in F107. Laminates maps, creates packets of geography activity materials and prints materials as needed. Converts slides to a digital format and researches and/or replaces digital materials used in course materials. Creates and changes bulletin boards and other materials each week in and out of the classroom. Able to interpret, transcribe or rework verbal and written materials used in the class.

Qualifications: Able to work independently. Has taken at least one Geography class from the instructor and demonstrates a working knowledge of basic geographic principles. Job Title: Civic Engagement Mentor

Duties: A CE mentor will work with student in Dr. Janzen’s Fall Semester, Phil 1110: Ethics class. You will help students complete their experiments in ethics . You will serve as an advisor, sharing your knowledge with students. Specifically you will: Meet with Mo to help plan class activities. You’ll meet individually with every student in the class (at least once/ semester). You’ll assist students in their selection and plan for their Experiments in Ethics. You’ll participate in class activities and readings related to the Experiments in Ethics. You’ll work with Mo to create a list of CE resources at ARCC. You’ll help Mo input new e-portfolios into her website.

Job Title: Instructional Technology Assistant

Duties: This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic department with a great team and learn new skill sets vital to the needs of our college. Duties: Help troubleshoot common AV related issues in our instructional classrooms and learning spaces. Help create AV instructional sheets. Complete basic wiring and connecting of AV equipment. Job Title: Service Desk Assistant

Duties: Work with OIT (Office of Information Technology) Service Desk team and other OIT team members to cover the open computer lab, being available to help students, faculty, and staff members as well as troubleshooting software and hardware issues, including StarID. Job Title: Upward Bound Tutor

Duties: Accompany Upward Bound advisors to area high schools to assist students in their academic success. Tutors must provide their own transportation, but are paid for their travel time.
